Wow, wow, wow!!!!!! Kudos to Ms. Shannon Harty former Kilgore Rangerette Captain and now current director of the Lake Highlands Highlandettes as this show was spectacular!!!
For those of you who missed it, this was by for the absolute most professional Highlandette Spring Show that we have seen in years. Mrs. Davenport was beside herself with excitement over Ms. Harty's experience and professionalism! Also, our winner this year of the Frances Davenport Pitchford $1,000 College Scholarship went to a three year line girl - Ms. Emily Northcutt, who will be atending Texas A&M in the fall and plans to major in business. Congratulations to Emily and all the Highlandettes for a job excellently done! Ms. Harty have a great time taking your well-deserved Highlandettes to Ireland next month.

A big thank you goes to Barbara Yarborough Lown, class of '70 for her rather large contribution to our Francis Davenport Highlandette College Scholarship Fund! Also, thanks to Linda Turney Smith, class of '65 for sending your dues. We will be awarding one $1,000 Scholarship this year due to many members belonging to other charities that helped the Katrina and Rita victims. Needless to say that this has been a rather lean year for our alumni organization. Again, we will meet on Saturday, Feb. 18th at noon or around noon to have lunch with Mrs. "D" at the El Fenix on Northwest Hwy. Also, we will attend the Saturday night Highlandette Revue, called "Postcards" at 7:30p.m. Hope you will try to be there.

First, I want to say to our dear Sarah Marlar VanAmburgh that we are very sad to hear of the passing of your mother, Mrs. Marlar. She was one of the sweetest and great teachers at LH. I'm so thankful that you brought her to our Mother/Daughter Highlandette Tea as it was so nice to visit with her again. The following thank yous go to Dana Muller, class of '68 and Ellen Meyer Draper, class of '72. The Highlandette Spring Revue is Feb. 17th and 18th. We will attend the Saturday night show with Mrs. "D". It starts at 7:30p.m. So far only one scholarship will be awarded this year. Also, there will be a luncheon for all Highlandette Alumni that same Saturday afternoon at El Fenix on Northwest Highway at noon. Hope to see you there are at the show or both!!!!!

Hey, Alumni! I was going to wait to tell you in our Newsletter but everyone keeps contacting me from the high school so I'll tell you now. The 2005 Highlandettes have a brand new director, Ms. Shannon Harty who just happened to be the 60th Kilgore Rangerette Captain!!!! Mrs. "D" is soooo excited and Shannon has asked her to speak to the girls prior to Homecoming this year on their "heritage." Shannon comes to us from Westlake High School in Austin where she was the drillteam director for the past four years. Shannon is "Miss Drillteam" so expect good things from the Highlandettes this football season. Spring Show this year is in February. I'll let you know more later.

We are looking for the "old uniform" complete with red top hat and leather, "heavy boots" for display at the high school's 40th Anniverary Celebration on March 23rd. Most of us have bits and pieces that we did not turn in at the end of the school year. That's okay, you won't get into trouble because I confess....I did the same thing. If you have any of the vintage uniform that you can let us borrow, please call me or e-mail me. I promise you will get it back! Just to let you know...I have the "old dress jacket" and pep rally top with the V-stripe. We need the red, reversible skirt, hat and boots, pep rally guantlets and pep rally leather waisted belt.

Hi, Highlandettes. Krista, hope you're doing well. I have registered at classmates.com and got an email from this site. I've only run into a couple of highlandettes in the past few years. I lived in FL for a while but am now back home in dallas, working for the Dallas Arboretum & for the Heard Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary as a science educator & finishing my MS in Biology/Ecology. Everything has changed for the better for me since high school, but I did get a lot out of that first year of being on the team, yes, ma'am. :) 2nd year I wasn't as involved, but still made some really great friends. I hope everyone is doing well and liking what they're doing.

Just to let you know, I have aquired all the Highlandette School Scrapbooks through the year '86. These scrapbooks will be at the Highlandette Alumni Reception for you to look at. Most are in great shape, just be careful thumbing through them as the bindings are loose. We are trying to preserve them as long as possible. The scrapbook that is in the worst shape is my junior year, (Gerry Pratt, Capt., 1970 - 1971.) Please be very careful handling these. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, Feb. 8th. Be there by 7:00p.m. if you want to sit with us in the roped off section for Highlandette Alumni. Tickets are $5.00 at the door of the auditorium. Hello to the 74-76 Highlandettes! I sure enjoyed seeing ya'll at the Hghlandette Reunion earlier this summer. It was fun to think back and reflect on all the fun times we had. And since my daughter just made Lieutenant on her drillteam, it is all coming back to me more vividly than you can imagine. Funny - in all the years, that red lipstick, those white boots and hat and long hours of practice hasn't changed much at all.
For those of you at the reunion who are still local, we said we would get together sometime. My e-mail address has changed - so let me hear from you.
Take care!

Had to add one more thing - 1969-1970 OFFICERS LOOK WONDERFUL!!! Sure wish I could have visited with ya'll again - I had a feeling that all of you would show up and I would regret not getting a chance to "thank you for the memories"! And Mrs. D - just like our parents - we never appreciate the discipline and values you instilled upon us until so much later in life. You were (and still are) a roll model.

Hey, "Original Dette", who are you? Send us your name and your "Original Group" picture and the name of your captain! I bet it was Sharron Davis as she was the very first captain of the Highlandettes and '64 was the first graduating class at Lake Highlands and we classify you as an "original Dette" who graduated in 1964!!!!! So, tell us your name and let us know if you were a three year girl!?

My first post has disappeared. The 1964 (1963-1964) Highlandeetes are not the original dettes. The 1961-1962 Highlandettes are the true originals as that was the first year of the drill team.

Thanks for sending me the link. Looks like the reunion was a huge success. I'm sorry I couldn't be there, but appreciated the invitation. (especially being included even though I was not an official Highlandette!) I'm happy it turned out so well. I enjoyed the pictures...Mrs D looked great. It was fun to see some familiar faces.
I've recently moved to an old farm house just outside of the city limits. (6706 Rotunda View, Austin 78747) This old place is keeping us all very busy! Thanks again for keeping in touch...Gillian Love Dreesen

Glad to hear y'all had such a great time at your reunion. And I'm having a LOT of fun looking at the pictures, and hope that you'll send more to Kathy for me to add to the page. Hi, gang!! I am leaving on vacation Saturday and I will be back on July 15th. I will post pictures of the Big Bash on the website when I return. If any of you have certain pictures that you would like for us to put on e-mail them to me in jpeg format. The party was a tremendous success and accomplished several things. Mrs. "D" and the other sponsors had a great time! Thank you for all your nice notes and e-mails. I will put them all in a scrapbook. Donese said her mom was soooo overwhelmed that she cried all the way back to Avinger! The guestbook has been fixed by Mark so feel free to write your comments on the Bash!! Also, when I return, I will offer CDs for sale along with leftover directories with the supplement put in to it. We were so busy the night of the party that we forgot to stuff the supplement in the back of the directory. A number of girls got their directories stolen off their tables, so let me know if you need another one. Also, a note to the '72 girls and officers....Mrs. "D" was so emotional at the podium that night, that she forgot to give out her certificates to the '72 girls as well as some trophies. She wanted me to apologize to you and tell you that she will try to mail them out. Although Cindy, she gave yours to you up in the suite after the Bash! Thanks to everyone for making Mrs. "D"'s and my dream come true!

Kathy, Thanks for all your hardwork on the Highlandette Reunion. It was so much fun. Even though we missed a lot of the '76 girls that weren't there, it was great to see everyone else and to view the scrapbook. It was amazing that so many memories came back as we stood around the book and reminisced and laughed. What a great group of girls... drillteam girls always were a class act!

Kathy and Ms."D' and all the reunion committee members,
Thank you for a truly enjoyable evening at our Highlandette
Bash. I believe this was more fun than our regular reunions.
I know why, because when you work so hard at performing
together and have so many common memories, you make much
better friends. In high school we did not realize how
much we would miss these friends once we all left.
Seems that what we have needed and still need some way of
communicating more during our lives. My husband went to
North Dallas High School and receives an alumni news report
about once or twice a year. There are bio's about classmates
and the school's events of interest. Wouldn't that be a way
to stay in touch? Also our website could be another good
way to talk and schedule other events that might help raise
money for scholarships. We could make a difference for some
other Highlandette who begins to try her wings in the world.
It was so much fun to see all the girls who had made such
an impression on me and that I am so proud that I could
call myself one of the LH Highlandettes!

Hello ya'll! Looking forward to seeing "old" faces and meeting new ones. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since I left LH. I live in East Texas near Alba (that's near Lake Fork). I own a small farm where I raise miniature donkeys, Angora goats and Angora rabbits. I love living in the counrty and stay busy keeping up with everything as well as working full time as a dispatcher for the electric company in Greenville. On the more enjoyable side I spin my own yarn from fibers from my furry friends, then knit it into things to wear. If you fine yourself in the area, come visit us. Mitchie

what has become of the Highlandette friends I made during the

When I got chosen for our team, she was such an inspiration

What a walk down memory lane! In the past couple of months I have received the Highlandette Reunion invitation and the invitation for my 35th Reunion in October. Oh my! Where has the time gone? I actually don't remember the year that I was a Highlandette but I think it was my sophomore year which would have been '64-'65. Most of my time was spent cheerleading. Mrs. D was also our sponsor. I hope that the former cheerleaders have also been included for this wonderful evening. My brother Bill '65 was also a cheerleader his senior year and my sister Cyndy '70 was a Highlandette. Hope to get all three of us to the gala. Thanks to all of you who have given so much of your time and talents to make this happen.

Hello Highlandettes! I was in the Higlandettes from '64-'68 and have wonderful memories from those years. Since graduating I've lived in Texas, Indiana, California and Missisippi. I have four children, the youngest one graduates this year and is going into the Navy. I also have two grandsons. My husband, Terry, and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary this month. It took me forever, but I finally finished college. I taught school last year in Mississippi, but am unable to teach now. I am a Member Relations Specialist and am trying to get my vacation approved so I can attend the ball, but so far have not heard. For the last three years, I've been writing a book about seven Iwo Jima Veterans and their experiences while in the Marine Corps.
Among other treasures, I still have my uniform and my Highlandette jacket. Sure hope I get to see everyone in Dallas!

Hey girls, I wanted to clear up a misconception. Many girls have been sending back their R.S.V.P.'s for only themselves. We are encouraging and are counting on everyone to bring their mom, husband, or a date to this party. All the plans with the hotel for the Grand Ballroom have been centered around everyone bringing a guest. This will be elegant with music and special ambience and an unforgettable party. Please support this eventful evening by attending with a guest! For those of you, who have already sent in your checks, if you want to add a guest, just let me know. Thanks for your consideration. We have gone to alot of trouble to have an elaborate A/V show!!

Highlandette 1967-68 and 68-69 (Soph and Jr years). Now live on a farm in a house we built 6 years ago with husband of 29 years, Mike, who is semi-retired from corporate management and 18 year old daughter, Merideth. Son, Ben, is 21 and attends Texas Tech. We own a Kwik Kar oil change in Weatherford where we all take turns working. Still have a zoo - horses, cows, cats, dogs, Koi fish, birds, etc. Active in tiny rural church, still love to paint and grow stuff. Live is good, and I'd love to hear from all of you! Hi friends. How fun to see so many names from the past line. I've been living just north of Boston for the past 20 years (it really can not be that long can it?) and unfortunately, this part of the country is not familiar with the concept of a drill team. They imagine a flag core at best. My husband and I have two sons, 10 and 16 (ok now that really cannot be) and I would love to take a video of the Highlandettes to a teacher at our oldest son's high school to see if we could organize a drill team there. She is a professional competitive dancer and I think she would love the idea. Does anyone have a video of the Highlandettes - either recent or an old one? If you do, would you please contact me and we could make arrangements for shipping, etc.? I am available at the above E-mail address or at 978-352-8495. Thank you.
